Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium funding?

Pupil Premium is a government grant which is allocated to schools based children’s eligibility for free school meals and those that are Looked After Children.

The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.’ (DfE website)

John Mayne CE Primary School Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

John Mayne CE Primary School is committed to making sure that all children achieve to the best of their ability and are given the highest standards of teaching and learning through delivering Quality First Teaching (QFT) in the first instance. On top of this, some children will require additional support for their learning to progress and they will also need supplementary pastoral care. Pupil Premium children are treated as individuals and some will need more support and in different ways to others. The school plans how to allocate pupil premium money annually, following rigorous data analysis and careful consideration of the needs of the children within this group. This is reviewed termly. The School Improvement Plan reflects our approach to Pupil Premium spending and our focus on whole-school strategies that impact all pupils, methods that target under-performing pupils, and specific strategies targeting pupil premium pupils. We have a clear, strategic approach to the use of Pupil Premium funding, and plans are integrated into wider school support and improvement systems.

Please read our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement for further information about how we spent this money.
